Both Grace Chen and Jane Myung have, like Ivy Avanessian Fua, received AADR Bloc Travel Grants to assist with the cost of their travel to South Africa.

Fua's abstract (mentor:  Dr. Lilliam M Pinzón, UCSF School of Dentistry) is entitled "A clinical study of ART and amalgam restorations in Colombian families."

Chen's abstract (mentor: Dr. Octavia Plesh, UCSF School of Dentistry) is entitled "Prevalence of Orofacial/TMD Pain in South Africa: The Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology (PURE) Study", the goal of which is to report on the prevalence and risk indicators of orofacial/TMD pain from a representative sample in South Africa, collaborating with a global cohort study (PURE) conducted by Dr. Thandi Puoane (University of the Western Cape).

Myung's oral presentation and abstract are entitled "Incidence of Contralateral Joint Surgeries After TMJ Total Joint Reconstruction", based on research conducted in collaboration with Dr. Rebeka Silva and Dr. Stephen T. Connelly, OMFS faculty and surgeons at UCSF and San Francisco VA Medical Center. Through her research Myung seeks to find reference points that clinicians can use when advising patients undergoing TMJ surgeries, and to eventually think about ways to improve the design of TMJ prostheses, to more closely resemble the physiological features natural temporomandibular joint.

The IADR has hosts one of the most important scientific meetings for the oral, craniofacial and dental research, and this year's 92nd General Session and Exhibition is expected to draw over 3,000 delegates, with more than 2,500 scientific abstracts being presented.
