Shaun AbramsDDS/PhD Candidate Shaun Abrams has been named a Nick and Sue Hellmann Discovery Fellow in the Graduate Division at UCSF.  He was selected for the honor because both his program at UCSF Dentistry’s Office of Graduate and Research Affairs and the UCSF Discovery Fellows faculty advisory board believe that he shows the potential to become an inspirational leader in his field.

“You have not only exemplified excellence in research,” says Elizabeth Watkins, PhD, Dean of the Graduate Division and Vice Chancellor of Student Academic Affairs, in a letter of September 12, “but have also shown that you are able to articulate clearly the importance of the research being conducted at UCSF.”

The supporters of the Discovery Fellows program intend for recipients to become ambassadors for basic research, and for UCSF’s graduate programs.

Abrams, who says he is "extremely humbled by the honor," was a 2013 recipient of a Hinman Award for Clinical Science Research in the category Most Outstanding Presentation at the Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tennessee.
