The UCSF Dental Alumni Association hosted its 11th Annual Bear Bash on Friday, Oct. 17 at the Faculty Alumni House, bringing dental students together with alumni––many of whom are also current UCSF Dentistry faculty––for an evening of food and drink, fun and lively conversation.
The anticipated fall event is among the earliest opportunities for recently-arrived first year dental students to meet socially with upperclassmen and alumni and make connections, and International Dental Program students––who matriculate during the summer––are also often meeting for the first time with classmates and alumni.
Dean Featherstone opened the program with thanks to the Dental Alumni Association for their support of the school and of the students in particular, through the organization and sponsorship of events such as the Bear Bash, the gift of class year-branded UCSF Dentistry sweatshirts to incoming students, and opportunities for mentorship.
The hospitality included a drawing for prizes donated by the alumni association board, Dean Featherstone and others, officiated by Dental Alumni
Association President Christine Hayashi (D’93), Rob Huntley (D’87) and Douglas Cowden (D’65), who chaired the 2014 Bear Bash. Dinner with the Dean and alumni were given away, along with gift cards and other goodies.
Dental Alumni Association Immediate Past President Carmen Hipona (D’96) offered “a big thank you to alumni, board members and staff for their generosity, time and great spirits, which also contributed to the success of the event.”
