The UCSF School of Dentistry congratulates Denis P. Lynch, DDS, PhD, Class of 1976 and 2009 UCSF Dental Alumni Association Medal of Honor recipient, for his induction into the Irish Education 100, awarded annually to the 100 most influential educators of Irish heritage in the United States.
Dr. Lynch will be honored at a ceremony at the home of the Irish Consul General, Noel Kilkenny, in New York City on December 13, 2012.

Not only is he a distinguished alumnus who makes us all proud, he continues to serve UCSF with his active participation on my 'Dean's Council' advisory board that meets several times a year."
A Regents Scholar while at UCSF, Dr. Lynch subsequently completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a doctorate in Experimental Pathology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where he was an NIH post-doctoral fellow.
Dr. Lynch is Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also holds a professorial appointment in the Department of Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His specific area of expertise is the diagnosis and treatment of patients with autoimmune diseases that affect both skin and mucous membranes. Lynch’s clinical practice includes primarily patients with mucocutaneous diseases, as well as head and neck cancers. He is a member of the Head and Neck Tumor Board of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
In addition to serving as an academic administrator, Lynch maintains an active teaching, patient care and research profile. He consistently receives outstanding teaching evaluations and awards for teaching excellence and has been voted “Outstanding Teacher of the Year”. He was twice elected to the Executive Committee of the American Dental Education Association and served in various capacities on the Commission on Dental Accreditation for sixteen years.
Lynch has published over one hundred abstracts and manuscripts in refereed journals, nearly a dozen book chapters and one reference textbook. He serves as a reviewer or on the editorial board of several scientific journals. He is the Past President of the Experimental Pathology Group of the International Association for Dental Research and is currently involved in nearly three million dollars of sponsored research.
In 2012 he was awarded a University Doctorate, honoris causa, from Victor Babeş University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara, Romania.
