For the 62nd consecutive year, the Charitable Foundation of the Native Sons of Golden West (NSGW) has made a significant donation to the UCSF Craniofacial Center. This year, the fraternal organization made an $85,000 donation, which will be used to cover the costs of services to patients not covered by insurance.
“Native Sons’ generosity allows us to provide orthodontic, prosthodontic, neuropsychological, genetic testing, social work and patient support services to our patients who would otherwise have to go without these treatments,” says Ophir Klein, MD, PhD, professor in the School of Dentistry and medical director of the Craniofacial Center. “We are grateful to Native Sons for helping us provide the services that make a difference to the lives of so many people.”
Since 1953, when NSGW made its first donation of $500, it has donated more than $3.3 million to UCSF. The group adopted the then-Cleft Palate Clinic at UCSF as a primary beneficiary because of its compassion for very young children born with a cleft palate, and its concern for the emotional as well as physical impact on children, their parents, family and friends.
