Eight students from UCSF School of Dentistry attended this year’s American Student Dental Association Annual Session, held in Atlanta, Georgia on March 6-9th, 2013. The event hosted over 470 dental students representing 61 dental schools from across the US. The Annual Session encompassed several House of Delegates business meetings, a student research poster session, exhibit fair, break-out learning sessions, the Gold Crown Awards Ceremony, and the President’s Gala.
The UCSF dental school was well represented, and the chapter competed for numerous awards, as well as having several students participate in district position elections. During the Gold Crown Awards Ceremony, UCSF's ASDA chapter was recognized for their superb writing skills and coverage of hot topics in dentistry, landing them the “Best Newsletter in Competition” award. The newsletter was highlighted for “making leaps and bounds in progress,” and for “standing well above the rest of the entries.” ASDA’s quarterly newsletter features photos, monthly recaps, member profiles, and faculty spotlights, providing a comprehensive overview of ASDA’s excellence at UCSF. Congratulations to ASDA’s Newsletter Editor, Devin Bernhardt (D2), and to all the contributing writers for their outstanding work.
ASDA’s Annual Session was loaded with a tremendous number of possibilities for attendees. The event was complete with a mobile app to help members allocate their time effectively and locate their break out sessions, district meetings, and free time options. Some of the break out sessions included lectures on Digital Dentistry and the Future, How to Stay in Your Office and Out of the Courtroom, Alternative Workforce Models, and Getting Into a Residency, just to name a few. Overall the weekend was a success, and provided a fantastic opportunity for students to network with other dental students, professionals in the field, and dental companies across the nation.
