D1 Johnny Nobles has been awarded the UCSF Student Academic Affairs/UCSF School of Dentistry Dean’s Office scholarship to travel to China with the Legends of China program. He will join scholarship recipients from the other UCSF professional schools in China this summer, for twelve days in July.
Says Nobles, "I feel this will be a great opportunity to represent UCSF Dentistry and to learn more about research and teaching opportunities in China. I look forward to all of this, especially to discovering internship possibilities, and to participating in the seminars and symposia that will be part of it. And, of course, I really look forward to experiencing China. The program is tailored to the interests of participants, and you're matched up with faculty who share your interests so you can really pursue what you want to pursue and try to establish lasting collaborations."
Adds Nobles, "I appreciate the facilitation of Burton Ober and Joshua Talley of the Office of Student Services in making this possible."
The Legends of China tour is an opportunity for UCSF staff, faculty and students to travel to China alongside colleagues and students from across the UC system. After meeting in Beijing and a day of educational and cultural events with Chinese students, the tour leaves for Shanghai, Xi’an, Hong Kong and other locations, discovering China while meeting students and staff from China and from across the University of California, and from other universities.
Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Affairs Dr. Joe Castro has championed student participation in this program by providing challenge funds that are being generously matched by each school, in order to award these special scholarships.
In 2012, the scholarship was awarded to D3 Iveta Markova.
