This topic will provide an evidence-based review of what every clinician should know. It will include new research on weight maintenance, evidence regarding the"keto" diet, gluten sensitivity and how to treat. It will also include dietary treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and gluten sensitivity and review of plant based diets for chronic kidney disease, an update on Calcium and Vitamin D and Omega 3 supplementation and what diets can help with liver disease.
Educational Objectives:
- Reinforce healthy diets and habits based on current evidence.
- Discuss new concepts as it relates to dental health and nutrition.
- Gain knowledge to help counsel patients regarding specific diet as it relates to disease, e.g. Calcium and Vitamin D, gluten sensitivity, fad diets, etc.
Instructor: Marijane Hynes, MD - UCSF School of Dentistry
Dr. Hynes has been an Internist for 26 years. She was educated at the George Washington University Medical School and did her residency at Georgetown University in Internal Medicine. She started the Weight Management Clinic and now is staffed with 6 physicians including a mindfulness coach, dietician and the psychiatric residents. She speaks at conferences and grand rounds around the country about Obesity. She has authored several articles this year regarding obesity, dietary therapy of chronic kidney disease and weight maintenance. She is also a diplomate of the ABOM (American Board of Obesity Medicine).
