Temporomandibular disorders have many concepts associated with them, some of which are supported by sound data and some of which are not. This complexity arises from the many problems that can be arise with masticatory function. Highlighting facts and fantasies related to the etiology of TMD, as well as discussing the diagnostic challenges thereof, will be the focus of this presentation.
Educational Objectives:
- Describe five potential risk factors for TMD.
- Identify how dental therapy may influence TMD.
- Describe the relationship of bruxism to TMD.
- Explain the importance of taking an accurate history for the TMD patient.
Intended Audience: This course is appropriate for dentists, hygienists, and dental team members.
