The rapid evolution of technologies and other innovations in orthodontics comes with the need for responsible evidence-based integration of these towards the delivery of precision and efficient patient care. Dr. Kapila will present current and emerging technological advances that have added to the orthodontist’s growing armamentarium for comprehensive detailed diagnosis and personalized orthodontics. These include the use of 3D imaging sophisticated biomechanical planning and implementation, interdisciplinary virtual treatment planning and the applications of artificial intelligence in clinical decision support.

Educational Objectives:

  • Comprehend the current state of technological and mechanical/materials innovations and how to optimally integrate these into orthodontic patient care.
  • Utilize detailed diagnostic and therapeutic information derived using contemporary technologies for personalized, precise and efficient therapies for your patients.
  • Understand emerging applications of artificial intelligence in clinical decision support and enhancing practice efficiencies.

Dr. Sunil Kapila is Professor and Dr. Thomas R. Bales Endowed Chair of Orthodontics at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where he also serves as the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Operations. He obtained his dental degree at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, an MS in orthodontics at University of Oklahoma as a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar, and a PhD in Oral Biology from University of California San Francisco. Dr. Kapila is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Kapila has received several research and clinical awards including the American Association for Dental Research’s Hatton Award, the American Association of Orthodontist’s (AAO) Milo Hellman Award, and the B.F. Dewel Honorary Research Award and the Burstone Fellowship from the AAO Foundation.

CDE Coursework Units: 4

Tuition: $159/Dentist; $129/Auxiliary - Tuition includes continental breakfast, course materials (if applicable), and parking.

Cancellation/Refunds:

Tuition refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, will be issued only for cancellations received in writing at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the course. No refunds will be issued for late cancellations or no-shows. We reserve the right to cancel any course due to circumstances beyond our control; under those circumstances we will refund all course fee payments. Please be aware that UCSF School of Dentistry CDE is not responsible for reimbursement of nonrefundable airline tickets or any other travel expenses in the event that a course is canceled.
