Ram Vaderhobli, DDS, MS, associate professor in UCSF Dentistry’s Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences Department, has been recognized by the UCSF School of Medicine for his efforts in educational leadership, teaching and mentoring. Dr. Vaderhobli will be formally welcomed into the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators (AME) on Sept. 28.
Dr. Vaderhobli is one of 19 new members for 2015 and is the first AME member to represent the School of Dentistry. He was chosen through a rigorous selection process that included reviewers who are nationally and internationally known in medical education and faculty development. Prior to this year’s membership class, the Academy had 110 members.
The AME was established in 2000 to support those who execute and advance the education mission of the UCSF School of Medicine. Its vision is to promote an educational climate that accelerates advances in teaching and learning, champions educator careers and improves health.
“I’m honored to be inducted into the academy and hope this will encourage more people from other departments to apply, as we all serve a common goal in health education and to work collaboratively,” says Dr. Vaderhobli. “My experience at UCSF has made me appreciate what it takes to perform full-time collaborative research, to be a compassionate teacher and residency director, and to be an excellent clinician beyond the credentials and expectations. This recognition provides motivation for me to continue to teach and mentor students, residents and faculty.”
“Dr. Vaderhobli has demonstrated educational leadership both in pre- and post-doctoral education,” says UCSF School of Dentistry Dean John D.B. Featherstone. “This recognition ensures that the School of Dentistry plays an important role in the increasingly interdisciplinary focus of the UCSF campus.”
