On Tuesday, Sept. 15, all UCSF Dentistry staff members are invited to a training session on unconscious bias, presented by UCSF’s Office of Diversity and Outreach. The training is open to all staff members and will be held in HSW 303 from 3 to 5 p.m.
According to the Office of Diversity and Outreach, “a bias is a prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person or group compared with another, usually in a way that’s considered to be unfair. … Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness.”
The School of Dentistry’s leadership team received unconscious bias training on Aug. 28. Such training is a priority for the school and its ongoing commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
Earlier this year, “Diversity and Inclusion” was added to the school’s core values, and Dr. George Taylor was appointed to the newly-created position of Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion.
Please check with your supervisor if you are interested in attending the training. Additional sessions will be offered in the future for those who are unable to attend.
