The webinar will explore implicit bias and research studies showing the prevalence and potential impact of implicit bias on students' clinical and learning environments. Evidence-based strategies and skills will be discussed to mitigate our own biases and provide a safe and unbiased clinical environment for the patients. 

Educational Objectives:

  • Define implicit bias and understand the difference between implicit and explicit bias
  • Increase self-awareness of implicit bias
  • Recognize how implicit bias can impact the clinical and learning environment
  • Strategies to mitigate the impact of implicit bias

Instructor: Shaista Rashid BDS, MS, MPH

Dr. Rashid earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree (B.D.S) from de'Montmorecy College of Dentistry, Pakistan. She then earned her M.S. degree in Oral Science and a Certificate in Operative Dentistry from the University Iowa College of Dentistry in 2007 and a Masters in Public Health Degree from the University of New England in 2021. Dr. Rashid has a diverse clinical teaching background. She served as a faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, Dentistry University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, and University of New England College of Dental Medicine before joining A.T. Still University - Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health as a Comprehensive Care Unit Director. Dr. Rashid is a current member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Association for Women dentist (AAWD), American Association for Dental Research, the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association, and American Dental Education Association.
Her research interests include minimally invasive restorative dentistry and Aesthetic dentistry.

CDE Coursework Units: 1.5

Tuition: $59 (Due to the Joint Providership of this program with ACDE, UCSF Faculty and Staff discounts are not available.)

Cancellation/Refunds:

Tuition refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, will be issued only for cancellations received in writing at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the course. No refunds will be issued for late cancellations or no-shows. We reserve the right to cancel any course due to circumstances beyond our control; under those circumstances we will refund all course fee payments. Please be aware that UCSF School of Dentistry CDE is not responsible for reimbursement of nonrefundable airline tickets or any other travel expenses in the event that a course is canceled.
